About Ajinto
Ajinto helps Michigan home kitchens sell what they make, and helps their neighbors find them. Bakers, jam makers and candy makers get a storefront, online ordering and the paperwork the cottage food law asks for. Buyers get a map of home kitchens near them.
Why we built it
In March 2026 Michigan's cottage food law changed: home food businesses can now sell online, ship within Michigan and use delivery, with a higher yearly limit. Most sellers still take orders through direct messages and payment apps. We built Ajinto so a home baker can run a real online shop that follows Michigan's rules, without giving up a cut of every order.
How we make money
Sellers pay a flat subscription: $10 or $20 a month after a 7-day free trial. We don't take a percentage of sales and buyers pay no Ajinto fee. Pro shops get featured placement on the map, and those listings are paid placement.
How we write our guides
- Primary sources first. Every rule in our guides comes from the statute (MCL 289.4102), MDARD's published guidance, MSU, the Michigan Department of Treasury or the IRS, and each article lists its sources.
- Dated and re-checked. Each guide shows when its facts were last checked. We re-check the law guides every September and whenever MDARD publishes new sales limits.
- Honest about gray areas. Where the law is unclear, we say so and point you to MDARD instead of guessing.
- No paid placements in articles. Our guides mention Ajinto where it's relevant, and they compare other options fairly.
Our guides are general information, not legal or tax advice. We are not affiliated with MDARD, MSU or any government agency.
